The Equalities Act 2010 is a far reaching "enabling" Act which replaces the Disability Discrimination Act and many others. This new legislation will allow Ministers to make Statutory Instruments and issue Statutory Guidance on many matters.

It will in almost all cases ensure that existing policies will need to be reviewed to be sure that they do not inadvertently discriminate against any specific group or group characteristic.

More specifically relating to Taxis a number of matters relating to the carriage of passengers in wheelchairs and otherwise can be made the subject of regulations as well as services provided via "designated transport facilities" such as hire car and hackney cab services available at Railway Stations with permit systems.

The Act will shortly be available for download from http://www.statutelaw.gov.uk
